Sardine Run in Mexico: Experience the most spectacular marine phenomenon.
Marlin & Sardine Run
Every October and November, the waters off Baja California Sur fill with enormous schools of sardines during their great migration. There, striped marlins, dolphins, and sea lions gather to hunt this natural feast. On this tour, you’ll snorkel right in the heart of Mexico’s Sardine Run, accompanied by a certified marine biologist, and witness a marine spectacle that occurs for only a few weeks each year. Our luxury camp is strategically located on the coast, nestled between dunes and mountains, to offer you views of these gigantic “bait balls” and the chance to swim among them. An Akampa experience that combines adventure, conservation, and comfort.

The adventure begins in La Paz, BCS. We’ll arrange transportation to take us to the agreed-upon departure point, and we’ll head to Bahía Magdalena. From there, we’ll go to the camp, where we’ll be waiting for you with a smile and a delicious meal. On this first day, we’ll settle into the camp and then gather around a campfire where our biologist will tell us everything we need to know about the gray whale.
We’ll wake up early to watch an unforgettable sunrise, enjoy a cup of coffee and a delicious breakfast, and then set out on our first Ocean Safari. We’ll spend several hours at sea searching for schools of sardines, which attract all kinds of predators, such as striped marlin and sea lions. In the afternoon, we’ll have ceviche in the dune area. On our way back, we’ll enjoy the sunset, have dinner, and have time to relax and socialize around the campfire.
Early in the morning, we’ll go on our second Ocean Safari to see marlins and humpback whales—so you won’t miss a thing. Afterward, we’ll visit an incredible community-run oyster farm where we’ll learn about oyster farming and enjoy fresh seafood. We’ll return to camp in the afternoon to watch the sunset. In the evening, we’ll have a bonfire under the starry sky.
On our last day, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast to say goodbye to Bahía Magdalena. Then we packed our bags and headed to La Paz to begin our journey home.
