Introducing the first safari in Mexico.

Yucatan Jungle Safari by Akampa x Viatura Unseen Escapes is not just a journey; it is an immersion into the beating heart of Mayan nature and culture. Inspired by the poetry and evocative narrative of Eduardo Galeano in his work "Memory of Fire", we want the traveler to experience a deep connection with history, nature and himself.

During the expedition, we will sleep at the spectacular Viatura Hacienda Xtojil camp - which is the first African-style camp in Mexico. We will observe flamingos, crocodiles and all kinds of birds, and kayak in a lagoon surrounded by spider monkeys.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Welcome to the camp

The shuttle picks us up at the agreed-upon meeting point and takes us to the camp. Upon arrival, we enjoy a local meal. In the evening, we gather for a welcome briefing, where we meet the team and learn about the itinerary and activities for the coming days.

  • Day 2: Flamingos and Mangroves

In the morning, we set off for a nature reserve two hours from the camp to see flamingos, crocodiles, and more than 150 species of birds. We took a raft tour through the mangroves. In the afternoon, we returned to the camp, enjoyed a delicious dinner, and ended the day with a campfire and stargazing.

  • Day 3: Mayan Culture

We visited the archaeological ruins of Uxmal, followed by a cultural tour of an old henequen hacienda. In the evening, we concluded the experience with a traditional temazcal, followed by a culinary experience as a farewell ritual.

  • Day 4: Hidden Cenote and Closure

We visit a hidden cenote near the campsite to go swimming. Upon our return, we check out, and the shuttle takes us back to the meeting point in Mérida, where the expedition ends.
