Introducing the first safari in Mexico.

Yucatan Jungle Safari by Akampa x Viatura Unseen Escapes is not just a journey; it is an immersion into the beating heart of Mayan nature and culture. Inspired by the poetry and evocative narrative of Eduardo Galeano in his work "Memory of Fire", we want the traveler to experience a deep connection with history, nature and himself.

During the expedition, we will sleep at the spectacular Viatura Hacienda Xtojil camp - which is the first African-style camp in Mexico. We will observe flamingos, crocodiles and all kinds of birds, and kayak in a lagoon surrounded by spider monkeys.

Itinerary

  • Day 1: Welcome to the camp

The adventure begins in Merida, Yucatan. Our transportation will pick you up at the agreed meeting point and we will transfer you to our camp: Viatura Hacienda Xtojil, the first African safari style camp in Mexico.

Upon arrival, we will enjoy a local meal and, in the evening, we will meet for a welcome talk, where you will meet the team and receive an introduction to the following days' activities and route.

  • Day 2: Jungle, Monkeys and Mayan Culture

This day we will head to Punta Laguna, a natural reserve in the middle of the jungle, home to spider monkeys and howler monkeys. There we will take a guided walk in the jungle, followed by adventure activities such as zip-lining and canoeing on the lagoon.

On the way back to the camp, we will stop at a Mayan village, where we will live an authentic gastronomic experience, learning about the ancestral ingredients and recipes of the region.

  • Day 3: Flamingos and Mangroves

In the morning we will depart to a nature reserve located 2 hours from the camp, where we will have the opportunity to observe flamingos, crocodiles and a great diversity of wildlife. We will also enjoy a kayaking activity among mangroves.

We will return to camp in the evening to enjoy a farewell dinner and close the day around the campfire with a stargazing session in a magical setting.

  • Day 4: Hidden Cenote and Closure

We will wake up calmly to enjoy a full breakfast at the camp.

Afterwards, we will make a final expedition to a nearby hidden cenote, where we can swim and close our experience in contact with nature.

At the end of the tour, we will return to Mérida, where we will conclude this adventure.
